The main aim of the ROMIT project (www.romit.org) is to find, at European level, new ways of preservation and management of the archaeological sites of Roman origin, integrating them into the local development policies. By doing this, two important and significant factors will be deemed:
- “Heritage”, considered as a combination of intangible elements – as traditions, values and beliefs, and tangible elements – as works of art, craft, buildings and landscape) represents an important element of personal identification (the other face of globalisation for many people is the rediscover of their own roots) as well as a sphere of various personal interests.
- These personal interests can be transformed in specific tourist products.
Studies conducted at international level, in particular in the USA, demonstrated that the heritage tourists spend more money and stay longer at destination than other travellers.
