The Malatestas governed over Rimini from the end of the 13th century to the end of the 15th century. Many of their buildings were identified by the family coat of arms with chequered bands, sometimes personalised by initials. The Museum displays many of these often fragmented coats of arms dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries.
