Taberna medica

A Roman house, taking its name from the medical profession practised by its last master, was excavated in Piazza Ferrari, very close to the Civic Museum.

This exceptional discovery provides evidence of continual occupation from the Roman Republic to the Middle Ages. The Empire period house was burnt down during the barbarian invasions of the second half of the 3rd century. A kind of Pompeii in miniature emerged from the rubble, with its walls, mosaics, plaster work, furnishings and fittings…giving us a “photograph” of life in ancient Rimini.

Display arrangements, by means of reconstructions, stratigraphy and building materials, enable us to observe and interpret the archaeological data, highlighting building techniques, construction stages, living space arrangements, wall and floor decoration.
